The so-called “Schwarz-Weiß Gang” at the present-day Göttelborn Campus, located on the site of the former Göttelborn coal mine, is to be repurposed. The corridor once led miners from the changing rooms to the shaft in the morning and back again in the evening. Its name derives from the miners’ clothing, which was white in the morning and black by the end of the working day.
The approximately 100-metre-long corridor will retain its existing structure and façade. Only the windows and thermal insulation will be renewed. Due to its narrow width, an access gallery will be suspended from the superimposed solid timber structure, providing access to both floors via a single-span layout.
